The WOMBATS have
started 2008 at characteristically breakneck pace, kicking off the year
by releasing the single ‘Moving To New York’ on 14 January and playing
on a carpark roof to 60,000 people at the opening event of Liverpool’s
Capital of Culture celebrations.
They will then headline three sold-out NME Awards shows in February,
before setting off for dates in Australia, Japan, the US and a headline
tour of Europe before their UK dates.
The release of their debut album The WOMBATS Proudly present...A
Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation in November 2007 led The Fly
to describe the band rapturously as 'one of the most intelligent bands
around at the moment' whilst The Times called the album 'a smart
collection of danceable indie pop packed with hummable melodies,
harmonies and lyrical wit'.
The WOMBATS are Matthew Murphy (vocals, guitar, keyboard), Tord Øverland
Knudsen (bass, vocals) and Dan Haggis (drums, vocals).
